Arriving at Anzac Cove

This is a slice of life story I wrote about how it might have been for soldiers landing at Anzac Cove.

The Landing at Anzac Cove

I felt cold inside as we approached beach. I heard screams as bullets flew past me.  That was the most terrifying moment of my life.

I was praying to stay alive. I tried to shut out the pleads of others screaming for help. I was pulled into the water by the weight of my bag, my guns water logged, useless now. Gasping for air feeling so alone, so exhausted.  Just wishing this would be over , wishing to get through this alive.

The pain was unimaginable as a bullet burst straight through my shoulder. I saw others writhing and shaking  with pain as I was trying to swim to shore pushing dead bodies out of the way. The red sea of blood, freezing me to the bone.
