WRITING WORKSHOP: Sports

This week for writing Maia's groups decided that with the Olympics on, we would write about topics to do with sports.

We looked at two different types of writing; a poem and a story.

After reading we identified the common features the writers used.

We noticed:

-the writers both used short sentences and lists deliberately.

-the writers both used strong verbs to help tell their message which created a strong image in our minds.

-they wrote only what was necessary to  "paint the picture".

When we are writing this week we are going to practice using these techniques to improve our writing.

Here is a poem Laurens wrote today:

THE ARCHER
Grasp the bow tightly
Aim at the bulls-eye
Focus on the target
Pull back the string- taunt, tight, strong
Release…
Phdumpff
Bulls-eye!

  1. So that's how you spell the noise an arrow makes when lodging in the target?
